QVC put frozen food on the front page today, which it does maybe once a fortnight. Both countdowns end about 1 a.m. ET tomorrow, and the overnight lineup opened with a food hour.

What exactly is on the QVC deal page today?

The Perfect Gourmet Classic Sized Potstickers, in two sizes. The 75-piece has eight choices: Chicken, Pork, Vegetable, Sesame Chicken, Asian BBQ Pork, Beef & Broccoli, a Classic Combo and a Specialty Combo. The 150-piece adds a six-flavour assortment, 25 of each.

Everything ships frozen in 25-count vacuum-sealed bags, packed with dry ice, within two days. Net weight: 3.65 lbs for the 75, 7.29 lbs for the 150. Neither listing carried a star rating, which usually means a new item number rather than a new product.

How much is one potsticker, once you do the division?

QVC quotes counts, not weight, so we ran both. The 75-piece is 85.6¢ an ounce and 66.6¢ a piece; the 150-piece, 72.9¢ an ounce and 56.7¢ a piece. The bigger box saves 12.7¢ an ounce, about 15% — freezer space is the whole decision.

Is the TSV cheaper than QVC's own everyday potstickers?

Yes. QVC's everyday 100-count box (M99038) is $79.00 shipped free at 4.85 lbs — $1.018 an ounce, year round.

So the discount is real inside QVC's own catalogue — unlike yesterday's denim TSV, where a near-identical jean sat three dollars cheaper on the same site.

Can you buy the same bag at Walmart, Target or Amazon?

No. We found no Perfect Gourmet listing at Amazon, Walmart or Target. A same-product comparison is impossible, so we converted the grocery aisle to price per ounce.

Read that honestly: the cheapest freezer-aisle potsticker is a third of QVC's price per ounce. The nearest like-for-like, a small-batch gluten-free brand at Target, is 77.9¢ — within nine cents of the deal.

What does the free shipping actually save you?

More than usual: dry ice plus a two-day service level is the line item that normally kills mail-order food, and QVC is absorbing it. Two caveats — no shipping to Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands or Guam, and the dry ice may be gone on arrival (the food is still frozen, but be home). Two codes are live today. Which one is worth using?

VIPTSV5 takes 5% off the TSV with a QCard or HSN Card; HELLO20 takes $20 off a $40-plus first order.

The new-customer code changes the answer. At $29.98 the 75-piece beats every frozen potsticker at Target, and note the reversal: with HELLO20 the small box is better value per ounce than the big one, because a flat $20 is worth more against a smaller total. Allergens, flavours and what does not ship

All varieties contain wheat, soy and sesame. Asian Pork BBQ adds sulfites and Beef & Broccoli adds oyster — skip those two for a shellfish allergy. Cook from frozen: pan, a tablespoon of oil, medium heat, brown both sides.

Best way to buy these potstickers today

First choice: the 150-piece at $84.98, if you have room — the lowest price per ounce QVC offers on this brand.

If it is your first QVC order: the 75-piece with HELLO20, $29.98 delivered. That is the single best number on this page.
