QVC put frozen food on the front page today, which it does maybe once a fortnight. The countdown on both product pages said the deal ends about 1 a.m. ET tomorrow, and QVC's overnight lineup opened with a food hour, so the potstickers are the item the network is pushing all day.

What exactly is on the QVC deal page today?

The Perfect Gourmet Classic Sized Potstickers, in two sizes. The 75-piece comes in eight flavour choices — Chicken, Pork, Vegetable, Sesame Chicken, Asian BBQ Pork, Beef & Broccoli, a Classic Combo of 25 each of chicken, pork and vegetable, and a Specialty Combo of the three newer fillings. The 150-piece adds a six-flavour assortment, 25 of each.

Everything ships in 25-count vacuum-sealed bags, frozen, packed with dry ice, arriving within two days of shipment. Net weight is 3.65 lbs for the 75 and 7.29 lbs for the 150. Neither listing carried a star rating when we looked, which usually means the item number is new even when the product is not — QVC has been selling this brand for years.

How much is one potsticker, once you do the division?

QVC quotes counts, not weight, so we ran both. On the stated net weights the 75-piece works out to 85.6¢ an ounce and 66.6¢ a piece. The 150-piece drops to 72.9¢ an ounce and 56.7¢ a piece.

Buying the bigger box saves 12.7¢ on every ounce — about 15%. If you have the freezer space, that is the whole decision. If you don't, the 75 is the one that fits a normal freezer drawer.

Is the TSV cheaper than QVC's own everyday potstickers?

Yes, and this is the comparison most price-check pieces skip. QVC sells a 100-count Classic Potstickers box (M99038) at $79.00 with free shipping, net weight 4.85 lbs. That is $1.018 an ounce, every day of the year.

So the discount is real inside QVC's own catalogue, which is more than we could say for yesterday's denim TSV, where a nearly identical jean sat three dollars cheaper on the same website.

Can you buy the same bag at Walmart, Target or Amazon?

No. The Perfect Gourmet sells through QVC and essentially nowhere else online — we could not find a listing at Amazon, Walmart or Target, and searches for the brand return QVC pages. That makes a same-product comparison impossible, so we converted the grocery aisle to price per ounce instead.

Read that honestly: the cheapest freezer-aisle potsticker is a third of QVC's price per ounce. The nearest thing to a like-for-like — a small-batch, gluten-free brand at Target — lands at 77.9¢, which is within nine cents of the QVC deal.

What does the free shipping actually save you?

More than usual. Frozen shipments travel with dry ice and a two-day service level, and that is normally the line item that kills mail-order food. QVC is absorbing it here, which is why the per-ounce gap against a grocery run is narrower than the sticker price suggests.

Two caveats sit in the fine print. The boxes cannot ship to Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands or Guam, and QVC warns the dry ice may be gone on arrival — the food is still frozen, but you want to be home. Two codes are live today. Which one is worth using?

QVC is running VIPTSV5 — 5% off the Today's Special Value with a QCard or HSN Card — and HELLO20, $20 off a $40-plus order for new customers.

The new-customer code is the one that changes the answer. At $29.98 the 75-piece box beats every frozen potsticker at Target and is within touching distance of the Walmart big bags — and note the reversal: with HELLO20 applied, the small box becomes better value per ounce than the big one, because a flat $20 is worth more against a smaller total. Allergens, flavours and what does not ship

All varieties contain wheat, soy and sesame. The Asian Pork BBQ contains sulfites and the Beef & Broccoli contains oyster, so those two are the ones to skip for a shellfish allergy. Cooking is a pan, a tablespoon of oil, medium heat, brown both sides — from frozen, no thaw.

Best way to buy these potstickers today

First choice: the 150-piece at $84.98, if you have room. It is the lowest price per ounce QVC offers on this brand, and the free frozen shipping is what makes it work at all.

If it is your first QVC order: the 75-piece with HELLO20, $29.98 delivered. That is the single best number on this page.

If you just want potstickers in the freezer tonight: Target or Walmart, at a third to half the price per ounce, in a different brand. Is auto-delivery cheaper? No. The auto-delivery item numbers carry the same $49.98 and $84.98 today; the difference is a recurring shipment, not a discount.

Can I mix flavours in one box? Only through the combo options. The single-flavour boxes are 75 or 150 of the same filling.
